In a small, relaxed group, you’ll learn to take control of your camera and start creating the photos you actually want.

1. Light and your camera: how a camera works and how to hold it
2. Exposure: aperture, shutter speed and ISO, finally explained simply
3. Focus and lenses: sharp photos and choosing the right focal length
4. Light: soft and hard light, direction, the best time of day, white balance
5. Composition: simple rules to make any photo stronger (and when to break them)
6. Editing: a simple step-by-step process in Lightroom or Snapseed
How the photography course in Haarlem works
Small group course
- 3 Saturday mornings of 2 hours in Haarlem · maximum 6 people

Private lessons
One-on-one, in person in Haarlem or online, at your own pace and with your own camera.
In Person
2-hour lesson: €195 · Pack of 3 lessons (6 hours): €525 Minimum 2 hours, so there’s real time to practise.
However, outside Haarlem a travel fee per km applies.
That’s why I suggest taking at least two lessons to get a handle on the basics.
Online, from anywhere
1 hour: €85 · 1.5 hours: €120 · Pack of 3 lessons (1.5 h each): €325
In addition, these are live video lessons with your camera in hand, plus feedback on the photos you take between lessons.
Why learn with me?
I’m Pau, a documentary photographer based in Haarlem. Before living in the Netherlands, I taught photography to beginners in Buenos Aires and online for years, and I know exactly where people get stuck. That’s why my approach is simple: no complicated jargon, lots of practice, and a safe space to make mistakes. FAQ
What camera do I need?
Any camera with manual settings: a DSLR, mirrorless or advanced compact. We work with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and more. If you only have a phone, send me a message and we’ll see if private lessons are a better fit. Also, I have extra cameras that I can lend during the classes.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. In fact, we start from scratch.
In which language is the course?
That’s why there are separate groups in English and in Spanish, so you can learn in the language you feel most comfortable with.
What if I miss a session?
Let me know in advance and we’ll find a way to catch up, either in the next group or in a short private session.
What’s the difference between the group course and private lessons?
The group course follows the full programme step by step with other beginners, at a lower price. On the other hand, private lessons are fully tailored to you: your camera, your questions and your pace, so you progress faster.
Can I give the course as a gift?
Yes, of course. Just contact me and we can talk about it.
Can I take lessons online? Yes. In fact, online private lessons work great for learning your camera settings and editing. You practise between lessons and send me your photos, and we review them together in the next session.
