If I may say something, and you can do what you want with it: have fun. Enjoy yourself. “You only live once” is one of the most overused phrases in history, and yet it’s undeniably true.
Doing what we love, that feeling when everything flows and creativity bursts out: laughing, having a good time, clearing your head and focusing only on what is happening in that moment. Few things compare to that sensation.
Try to find what gives you that feeling, what allows you to surprise yourself. Something that challenges you but that you also enjoy learning and doing. The body speaks volumes, and when we do what we love, it doesn’t stay silent. The mind flows, ideas come, and somehow everything works, regardless of the outcome.
Photographing creative flow
Making portraits is exactly that for me: finding those moments of flow and enjoyment, challenging myself and connecting with what the other person is experiencing and feeling. And that’s what I felt photographing An Lanusse in her ceramics studio in Haarlem.
Meet An Lanusse, ceramic artist in Haarlem
An is a ceramic artist and teacher who creates beautiful and decorative clay objects. This was not our first session together, and I’m grateful she trusted me once more to capture her work.
Behind the scenes of the session
We photographed An at work in her studio: hands in the clay, the wheel turning, finished pieces drying on the shelves, and moments with her students during a class. No poses, just her doing what she loves. The result is a collection of images that shows not only her ceramics, but the care and energy behind every piece.
Find out more about An on her website or visit her Instagram profile and follow her work!
