I’m Pau, a documentary family photographer based in Haarlem, just a few minutes from Heemstede. I photograph families in Wandelbos Groenendaal, in the dunes of the Waterleidingduinen or simply at home.

Eighty hectares of old trees, winding lanes and ponds, with Highland cattle, a playground and the children’s farm ’t Molentje. Kids can run and explore while you simply enjoy the walk.
The Waterleidingduinen
Just west of Heemstede: wide dunes, quiet paths and, with a bit of luck, fallow deer in the late-afternoon light. Beautiful all year round.

Do you charge travel costs to Heemstede?
No. Sessions in Heemstede, Haarlem and Bloemendaal have no travel costs.
When is the best time for an outdoor session?
Late afternoon, about one to two hours before sunset. In summer that means the evening, in winter the early afternoon. Spring and autumn give the softest light.
What if it’s windy or raining?
The woods of Groenendaal give great shelter on windy days. If it rains, we move your session to a new date at no cost.
Where do we meet?
I send you a meeting point beforehand, always close to parking and easy with little kids and buggies.
What should we wear?
I’ll send you a guide. For the woods: soft, neutral colours, layers, and shoes the kids can get a bit muddy.
My kids won’t sit still. Is that a problem?
Not at all. I photograph them as they are: running, digging and exploring.
