What to Wear for a Brand Photoshoot: Lessons from Laura’s Session in Haarlem

“What should I wear?” is probably the question I get most before a brand photoshoot. And it matters more than you think: your outfits shape how versatile your photos will be, and how comfortable you’ll feel in front of the camera. Let me show you how we approached it in my session with Laura Tomás Jiménez here in Haarlem.

Laura’s brand photoshoot in Haarlem

Laura Tomás Jiménez is a service-based entrepreneur who understands the power of strong visuals for her website and social media, especially her active presence on LinkedIn. Her goal was clear: a diverse bank of images she could use across all her channels, so she always has fresh, professional content to share.

To get there, we played with different backgrounds, multiple looks and a range of colours, all within one session.

Why I always recommend 2 or 3 outfit changes

Changing outfits adds incredible variety to your photos. Instead of looking like everything was shot on a single day, your images feel like content from different moments and moods: a meeting, a creative day, a relaxed coffee. That means months of content from one session.

What to wear for your brand photoshoot: my tips

  • Start with your brand. Think about the colours and feeling of your business: calm and natural, bold and energetic, elegant and minimal?
  • Choose solid colours and soft textures. They photograph beautifully. Avoid big logos and very busy prints.
  • Mix formal and casual. For example, one “meeting” look, one everyday look and one that shows your personality.
  • Wear what you actually wear. If your clients meet you in jeans, don’t show up in a suit. Your photos should match the real you.
  • Comfort comes first. If you’re not comfortable in your clothes, it will show in your photos.
  • Bring accessories: a jacket, scarf or jewellery can create a new look in seconds.

My pro tip: plan it together with your photographer

Before every session, I have an in-depth conversation with my clients about their goals, style and the platforms where they’ll use the photos. We plan the outfits together, so everything aligns with their brand, personal style and comfort. That’s how we make sure the final photos are exactly what you need.
