Why your dog belongs in your brand photos
There’s a moment in almost every session that surprises my clients: the moment their dog walks into frame. Suddenly the shoulders drop, the smile gets real, and all that “I hate being photographed” tension just disappears.
That’s not an accident — it’s the reason I love including pets in personal brand sessions.
1. Instant, Unforced Connection
You can’t fake the way someone looks at their dog. It’s one of the few genuinely unposed moments you’ll get in a session, and it translates directly into a photo that feels warm and human instead of stiff and “corporate.”
2. It Shows the Real You, Not Just “The Brand”
Clients hire people, not logos. A photo of you working from your desk with your dog curled up nearby tells a more honest story about who you are than another studio headshot ever could — and that’s exactly the kind of content that builds trust on LinkedIn or Instagram.
3. It Takes the Pressure Off
For entrepreneurs who feel awkward in front of the camera, having their dog there gives them something to focus on besides “am I posing right?” It’s one of my favorite tricks for camera-shy clients: the moment you stop thinking about the camera is the moment the best photos happen.
How to prepare your dog for a photoshoot
- Go for a walk first: a slightly tired dog is a calmer model.
- Bring treats and a favourite toy. They’re the best tools to get those ears up and eyes on the camera.
- Brush them before the session, and don’t forget a towel if we shoot near the beach or the dunes.
- Bring someone to help if your dog gets excited easily. They can hold the leash while we focus on you.
- Choose a familiar place: your home, office or a park you walk in every day. Your dog will be more relaxed, and so will you.
