I met Annie through a group of female entrepreneurs about a year ago. I instantly felt comfortable around her, maybe because of my familiarity with British people and my past with so many English bosses. Or perhaps it’s simply the warmth she radiates.
Meet Annie Peutrell
Annie is a life coach and, as if that weren’t enough, she has years of experience in branding. Since the first time we met, we’ve been working together, creating projects and connecting through creativity and a shared need to pass on what we know.
A few weeks ago, I had the luxury of doing a photo session for her. Of course, it was a session that reflects who she is: warm, fun and colourful, the same qualities you’ll find in her workspace.
Why your workspace belongs in your brand photos
Your workspace tells a story before you say a word. The colours, the objects on your desk, the books on your shelves, the chair where your clients sit: they all show potential clients what it feels like to work with you.
That’s why I love photographing entrepreneurs in their own space. You feel more relaxed at home or in your studio, and the photos become more personal and recognisable. In Annie’s case, her colourful room did half the work: all I had to do was let her be herself in it.
How to prepare your workspace for a photoshoot
- Tidy up, but don’t make it sterile. A few personal objects add character.
- Open the curtains. Natural light is your best friend.
- Think about the details that show what you do: your notebook, tools, products or favourite mug.
- Choose a few different corners so we can create variety.
- Pets are welcome! (Just ask Bennie.)
